We're doing lots of yardwork while we can. Yesterday I pulled dead kudzu out of several Dogwood & other trees around the yard, picked up fallen oak & sweetgum branches, raked leaves, and chopped down lots of undergrowth. We had a nice bonfire afterwards to rid our yard of the detritus. Lyn got busy pulling weeds and reclaiming potting soil from various plant pots that have been languishing plantless for several seasons. She picked out several packets of herb seeds to put in the planters, as well as lots of packets of flower seeds for the yard. This is going to be a good year for prettifing the yard. Too bad we can't have a garden - because of the deer over-population eating anything tasty that sprouts up. (There are several *herds* of deer in the woods behind the house.)

Another project that got completed was the transplanting of the lime tree from out of a 5 gallon pot and into the ground. That was a rather sizable hole to be dug, let me assure you. There are already fresh buds blossoming out, and new leaves sprouting. One word of warning to visitors: the lime tree has two-inch thorns along each and every branch. And they have *very* sharp points! Beware!

I also managed to de-pot and plant yet another cedar tree into the front yard. This one, along with one already established, will frame two corners of a parking/turn-around area off the driveway. Future additions to this will be several railroad ties to outline the spot, and lots of loose rock & rubble from digging in the yard for other projects that will be used to fill in and eventually level the area with the driveway. As a final touch, there will be concrete flagstones capping the back-fill to finish off the leveling.

There will be lots of concrete flagstones for future projects, since I've ordered a pair of 2sqft. molds to make my own flagstones. This will probably be much more cost-effective than the previous plan of building several large wooden decks around the house. I'm not going to rule out building decks, but there will no longer be the need for quite so many acres of them as I had first planned.

Well, enough for now. I need to get busy with some indoor projects until it warms up a bit outside.

Dan

Yeah, we've had some great weather the last couple weekends. I've been out working in the yard also.

Could you maybe build a fence around the garden plot to keep the deer out?

I still think you need to install a hot tub. :)

Yeah! Hot tub!

What kind of lime tree is it?

I chased one of the herds away from my poor unfenced "strawberry" bed this morning. I gotta fence it, I reluctantly admit. Darn deer.

Sounds like some lovely work you've been doing :) See you again soon I hope!
